The valve troubles are first an unstable idle. A perfect seal of the valves greatly improves the start.
Signs of wear on a valve are a sealing area more than 1.5mm and/or a non-smooth surface. It must not have bites or be rounded.
Their sealing is tested by putting gas in the port. Valve assembled with its springs the maximum are small seeps.
A valve can be grinded in an engine workshop. They are everywhere. Price between 10 and 20 euro per valve.
The seats can also be grinded if necessary. This is not obligatory but if you have your valves like new the seats must be perfect.
